After the plane which was carrying Alex Batty, the boy who got lost six years ago during the holiday trip in Spain with his mother and grandfather, landed in UK, it was confirmed that Batty had returned to his family.
Batty is 17 now, as he was 11 when he was disappeared. His step-grandfather had took him from Toulouse airport on the 16th of December, 2023.

Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle stated that a family member, and officers had welcomed Alex at Toulouse airport, before bringing him back to United Kingdom.
“This moment was undoubtedly huge for him and his loved ones, and we’re glad that they have been able to see each other again after all this time.” Chief Matt said.
GMP stated that they are yet to receive formal statements from Alex Batty, as they would not make comments on the French authority reports, as they need to investigate more what Alex will say to them.

“[Alex] may now be six years older than when he went missing, but he is still a young person,” Chief Matt said.
After they left UK, Alex’s mother and grandfather, Melanie and David Batty had arranged a holiday trip to Marbella in Spain, on the 30th of September, 2017. Alex was last seen at the Port of Malaga on the 8th of October, 2017.
As it was reported from the French authorities, Alex had resided in the remote Pyrenean valleys, as he was took a wandering lifestlye, where he had went to Spain, Morocco, and France. He walked for four days through the mountains of southern France, when he was found on the road, trying his way back to England.
A delivery driver, Fabien Accidini dound Alex on the road, where he had contacted to his grandmother, Susan Caruana’s Facebook account through Fabien’s account.

French authorities stated that Alex’s mother, Melanie was wanted, as she might be in Finland, and stated that his grandfather, David lost his life six month’s before.
A prosecutor, Antonie Leroy had stated that Alex wanted to return to his family, after his mother’s intention to move in to Finland. Then he started to his journey of four days, where he walked through the mountains of Pyrenes.

GMP stated that French authorities had took good care of Alex after he was found, and he had a video call with his grandmother, Susan, from Oldham, Greater Manchester.
“I cannot begin to express my relief and happiness that Alex has been found safe and well. I spoke with him last night, and it was so good to hear his voice and see his face again. I can’t wait to see him when we’re reunited. The main thing is that he’s safe, after what would be an overwhelming experience for anyone, not least a child,” Susan said.
Alex stated that he resided in a French farmhouse, where the owners Frederic Hambye and Ingrid Beauve helped him, and they knew him as Zach. The Gite de la Bastide is a small hamlet in the hills of the Pyrenees. Alex stayed in there for two years.

The owners of the hamlet stated that Alex was a part of their family, and that he “had good relations with our kids.”
The couple stated that Alex wanted to return to his normal life, where his grandmother would give him.
