A Redditor shared the story of how he got into a conflict with his mother, when he put his pregnant wife ahead of his mother’s birthday.
The Redditor posted his story on Reddit’s “AITA” subreddit. The man stated that his wife was on the seventh month of her pregnancy, and it was a rough one for her. As the hormones are attacking, his wife is incredibly emotional right now.
And his mother’s birthday was coming, so the Redditor wanted to take his mother out for a dinner. The man explained that his mother loves seafood, and she picked a restaurant for them to have dinner, but the place was away 40 minutes of car ride.
OP’s pregnant wife was not comfortable with that long of a car ride, and she also didn’t have much to eat on the menu, so OP asked to his mother to change the restaurant. Then they had an argument with his mother.
“I explained this to my mom and she said my wife can stay at home. I told her my wife is particularly sensitive right now and that would make her feel bad. My mom got annoyed and asked if she really had to pick something else because a grown woman “couldn’t be left home alone.””
OP tried to explain that the pregnancy of his wife is not going to last forever, and pleaded to his mother to work with them. “She said to forget it. She wants seafood and all of the good seafood restaurants are that far away. I asked her to pick another type of cuisine though (she loves Mexican and we love hibachi, both of which we have local) but she yelled at me that her birthday isn’t about my wife. I accused her of being selfish and childish and said my wife comes first, so she hung up.”
Now the whole family was making terrible comments to his wife, which OP asked that if he was to blame in the story.
