The legendary name of the 80s, Christina Applegate was always open when it was about her life. When it was 2008, Applegate was diagnosed with breast cancer, and she received double mastectomy as a treatment.
Later in life, in 2017, Applegate had her fallopian tubes removed, along with her ovaries. Three years later, Applegate had faced with another critical health struggle.
In August of 2021, Applegate had revealed that she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Her disease had affected her work, and she started to felle challenged while working physically. Applegate was on the final season of her show, Dead to Me, when she received her diagnosis.
The star actress was using a wheelchair, and she was standing up with assistance during the filming of the final season. She was walking with a cane as she needed a support.
After the show, Applegate decided to stop her career as she was struggling a lot, and couldn’t do the thing she loved the most, acting.
Applegate had shared, “I’m probably not going to work on camera again, but I’m so glad that I went out with someone who is by far the greatest actress I’ve ever worked with in my entire life if not the greatest human I’ve ever known.”
In her interview that took place in the May of 2023, Applegate had stated that she was thinking about working on voiceovers, and she stated that she doesn’t thinking about returning in front of the cameras, as she said, “This is a progressive disease.” She explained that things might go worse for her.
Applegate explained that even when she is in her home, she needs her cane to be able to move around.
The famous actress shared that she never had a good day after her diagnosis with MS. As some days her struggle is less, but there are still struggles to overcome she explained.
She explained that she is afraid of having injuries, as she is afraid of “take more showers” as she thinks that she might slip and fall.
Her most days are passing in her bed, watching TV. She has a place on top of her staircase, where she puts the items that should go downstairs, as she can’t use the stairs. In her house, that place is called, “purgatory.”
She also explained that she is having problems with simple things like wearing her bra. She wanted from the clothing brands to make clothes that people with moving disabilities could wear more easily.
Just a fun fact, the suit my kid is wearing was Scott Weiland’s suit from one of his solo album covers. Scott gave my husband, Martyn, that suit long ago in the glorious 90’s Also we were quite a pair last night. She fractured her ankle this week, hence the boot, and me…MS pic.twitter.com/5rqv7d4chb

Applegate stated that simple things like walking and carrying objects in her hand are now big things for her which MS had made them hard for her.
“None of us knew I was going to be sick and gain 40 pounds from medication and have immobility. It was really difficult to not have my own personal feelings shadow what Jen was feeling. A lot of the words were really difficult to say […].” Applegate had said.
“I’d rather just lie here and cry or do whatever I need to do right now to process this,” she said about staying in her bed, and watching TV all alone.
As her immune system is affected from her disease too, she only sees few people in her life now. As her friends comes to help her, and to care for her daughter, Sadie, she also has a caretaker of herself, which she meets on weekends.
She is also grateful for her family, and especially her husband, Martyn LeNoble. As her daughter is grown enough to understand her mother’s condition, she is caring for her mother, when she comes from her school.
While Applegate had gave a speech in 2022, for the Walk of Fame event, she had cried about her daughter, Sadie. She had described her daughter as a kind, loving and intelligent young lady.
And since his wife’s diagnosis, LeNoble also had cared for his wife. As she was rarely in public, Applegate had appeared at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards, in her all black ensemble, and her cane. She attended to the event with her daughter Sadie.
