A Redditor shared her story on Reddit’s “Relationship Advice” subreddit. The woman shared her story in July of 2023. 28-year-old woman stated taht two years ago, her fiance, 32-year-old Derek left her at the altar, on their wedding day.
“My [ex-fiancé] “Derek” disappeared the morning of our wedding 2 years ago,” OP shared. As the troubled woman tried to call her fiance and contact her, she couldn’t. The day which supposed to be her happiest day was turned into a nightmare.
After she left devastated, she returned back to her empty house, and cried in the bathroom, uncontrollably.
The truth came from the mother of Derek, as she was devastated too. The mother informed OP that Derek had reconnected with his ex few days before the wedding. The truth had destroyed OP, as she was left with anger and betrayal.
As she had no idea what to do about her situation, she decided to talk with the strangers on Reddit, and wanted advice from other people. Three months later Derek decided to contact her. “I didn’t hear from him until 3 months after he left. He called me, [apologized] and then revealed that his ex had been hiding his child from him that he just found out about, he wanted to be with them,” OP wrote in her post.
“That’s pretty much all that was said, I didn’t say much, actually I think I only said “hello”. The whole situation left me numb, I just didn’t care anymore,” OP continued. With the passing time, and the help and support of his family, friends and therapy she started to heal the wounds in her soul.
After a year later, OP decided to move out from Australia, and she went to Wales, UK, for a new page in her lafe, as she wanted to leave hurtful memories behind.
As she moved, a memory moved with her, as Derek had messaged her from social media, which OP wrote, “Last night, I got a message request on [Instagram]; it was Derek. ‘Hey…'” I’ve heard you moved to Wales, that’s so cool, I’m [traveling] to Cardiff towards of the end of July. I’m deeply sorry about everything and I want to discuss what happened leading up to the wedding.”
She felt scared, as she couldn’t understand how Derek knew she was in Wales. It was an unwanted inviting from an unwanted person. As OP was trying to get rid of her momeries, Derek was trying to bring them back.
In the updates she give, OP shared that their mutual friend let Derek know that OP was in Wales. As OP decided to ignore Derek’s message, he later apologized and told the truth.
As she decided to meet with him, Derek explained that her ex passed away. He stated that he is a single father to his kid now, and then he handed OP an envelope. Derek said that he tried to pay the wedding back to OP.
Then OP said in her post that, at their meeting, she realized that she has no feelings agains Derek, which meant that she was over him, and the bad memories. As she thanked to the Redditors for their support and advice.
