A mother had shared a story on Reddit’s “AITA” subreddit. The Redditor stated that she got divorced from her husband after he cheated on her twice, and her daughter chose to stay with her father. Years later she wanted to return, but it was too late. On her journey, her parents and other family members chose her ex-husband too.
The 45-year-old woman stated that her daughter, “Kelly,” was 12, when she caught her husband cheating for the second time. As she wanted to divorce, everyone was against it. OP explained as, “In-Laws wouldn’t like it because they’re traditional conservatives who didn’t want to deal with the public scandal, but it was hurtful to me that my own family was trying to pressure me to stay in the marriage in order to not loose access to the money and perks my ex had provided.”
OP gave examples like, “While we were married my ex helped my brother get a nice job with a high salary and nice benefits, paid-off my sister’s credit card debts, and bought my parents really lavish gifts.”
When she caught her husband cheating for the first time, she wanted to divorce then too, but her parents convinced her to stay in their marriage for their daughter, who was few weeks old at the time. OP stated that she was vulnearable that time, and explained, “so I agreed and felt so stupid when my ex did it again but this time there wasn’t a “you weren’t performing your wifely duties since you got pregnant” excuse anymore. This time I wasn’t going to be deterred and continued with the divorce.”
And after the second cheating, her parents and in-laws started to talk with her daughter against the OP, and filled her with poisonous thoughts about her mother.
“I was distraught. I honestly don’t think I would’ve made it through if it weren’t for my best friend “Tina” who was my rock. In the end I got a nice settlement and some alimony, but didn’t get custody. I tried my hardest to still be in Kelly’s life but by the time she was a teen she was fully convinced that I was the bad guy and told the courts she didn’t want to see me anymore.” OP stated in her post.
As she was heartbroken, she was trying to reach out to her daughter. She then turned back to her school, where she was studying accounting, and had a high-paying job.
As her ex-husband was wealthy, he lived through things, and lost everything. After his former employee filed a lawsuit against him, he was fired from his company, and he lost all of his money with his lavish life style.
After Kelly’s college fund disappeared, she tried to contact with the Redditor. OP stated, “I won’t lie and say that I wasn’t hurt at the idea of her only wanting contact was for my money and agreed to pay for her to go to grad school on the condition that she sign an agreement that she won’t contest my will where I’m leaving most of what I owned to Tina’s daughter “Laura”.”
