Susan lost her husband, when their daughter May was 12. She was left alone with her daughter, as her husband was their pillar of strength. After her husband’s passing, Susan started to work at a bank, she was the bank manager. She was working for long hours, but her job was enough for her daughter to have a decent life.
Through her hard studying, May had received a place in an Ivy League university. It was a dream come true for Susan and her daughter.
At the university, May met with Carl, and they had started to their incredible relationship. But Carl’s family, Dave and Viki were high class in their own terms, and for their children they had another plans. After Susan met them, they were a little cold against her.
“Must be hard managing in such a quaint little home,” they would say, “I suppose brand names are out of the question for you.”
For their hard working and loving lifestlye, it meant nothing for them. But May and Susan had lived through hard times, and mean people couldn’t harm them.
When May and Carl started to plan their wedding, Susan was worried, next to being happy for them.
Carl wanted to buy a dress to Susan, as he had such a sweet heart. But Susan was worried because she was thinking that Carl’s parents would say something about it.
The wedding day was beautiful, besides Dave and Viki’s family’s talks. They were wishing for a “better” bride for Carl, as they expected him to get a “high class” girl.
Besides unavoidable family gatherings, Susan was avoiding contact with her in-laws. And in those gatherings, there would be some awkward sayings, and glances, and comments.
May and Carl would always invite Susan for any occasion, as Susan was loving them. They never let her feel like an outsider.
As time passed, May became pregnant. As they were over the moon, then came the baby shower. As May and Carl was wanting something simple, Carl’s parents wanted a lavis baby shower party, as if they were becoming to the grandparents of a world emperor.
But then the cost was revealed, Carl’s parents were charging $1,500 to attend only. As Susan didn’t had that much money to pay only for a baby shower, even though it was for her own grandchild. She decided to talk with her in-laws, and explained the situation.
“It’s your problem, take a credit or sell something.” They responded, as they were heartless.
She then take loans from her friends, and managed to attend to the baby shower. When she arrived, her phone got ranged, May was calling, and asking if Susan took money from her own bank account. She immediately explained that she would never do such a thing.
Later one of May’s in-law’s employee had stated that their accounts were getting frozen, so that meant that the big lavish baby shower plans were off.
Susan decided it was time to step up, and planned her own baby shower for her daughter, with the $1,500 she took from her friends.
