American gymnast legend Mary Lou Retton, was struggling with her life on the last year. As her life was in danger, Retton talked with Hoda Kotb about the struggle she experienced.
In the interview Kotb had with Retton, the gymnast shared that it is a rare occasion, since she is private with her life. As they talked about the olympic accomplishments Retton had, they also talked about the struggle she had, the battle she fought for her life on the last year.
As she was diagnosed with a unusual type of penumonia, Retton was “not able to breathe on her own.”
Retton talked about how her doctors was surprised, and thought about different things as they wanted to do a biopsy on Retton’s lungs. The medical teams wants to know what happened really. Retton had the fatigue and she couldn’t breathe normally, at first when she went to the hospital.
They immediately took Retton to ICU, and she stayed in there until she was released. Retton is still on oxygen. As her family were afraid for Retton, daughters of Retton, had created a fund page for her to cover the medical expenses. The fund had received more than $450,000.
In the interview, Retton explained that she was feeling weak, and she would like to remain private with her life. She explained that she had faced with a serious condition, and that she is grateful and feeling blesses that she is alive.
Retton explained that she didn’t wanted to be “crumpled up in a recliner or a wheelchair or in crutches or a walker.” She share that she wanted to be there for the times of her daughter’s weddings.
