A 56-year-old grandmother had shared her story of arguing with her daughter on the Reddit’s “AITA” subreddit. The woman had shared that she made some plans for herself in terms of vacation, and her daughter asked of her to babysit her son for the time she would be gone for her vacation.
OP had explained that her 26-year-old daughter was abandoned by her husband, when their baby was 3-month-old. As her daughter was having problems at both caring her and working at her job, OP wanted her daughter to move in with her.
OP explained that she has a daily routine, where from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., she is working, doing her gym session. And then she is caring for her grandson for the rest of the day until her daughter comes home.
The woman is paying the home expenses, and the day care for her grandson along with some things her grandson needs as diapers and formulas. OP is trying her best to support her daughter both financially and mentally.
As she needed some rest, she planned a vacation for herself. The woman explained that when her daughter learned about the vacation, her daughter had asked her to care for her son so she would save money from the daycare, as she wanted to move to her own place.
OP explained that she can’t accept as she already arranged her vacation, and as she stated, “I immediately said no, as it is my rest and taking care of a child for 6h/5d+2h at night is not in my plans, but that I could help in the morning so she can rest.”
After OP explained her situation, her daughter had started to cry, and she explained that she only wanted her help as she was trying to get her independence back and move out, but as a single mother, she is receiving little help from her mother.
OP concluded her post as, “I really want to rest and a 14 month old baby who is walking and curious I know I won’t get that rest, but I can’t help but feel guilty about my daughter’s situation. I love my grandson, but it is also my rest.”
