A Redditor had shared his story on Reddit’s relationship advice subreddit. The Redditor stated that after his father’s passing, his sister was left alone so the man wanted to adopt her, but he learned that his wife was against it.
The Redditor explained that his sister was eleven, at the time his father passed away. Then the Redditor stated that with his wife, they had no intention to have kids in the future, as they didn’t had any children now.
OP wrote, “My father passed away from pancreatic cancer. There are 2 options for my sister: either I take her in or my uncle [dad’s brother]. So we asked her who she wanted, and she chose me. Here is the problem: My wife and I decided that we did not want kids.”
Then his sister chose her brother, which the problem for his wife started. OP’s wife had shared her opinion, and stated that she didn’t wanted any children, and she was thinking that they were on the same page. And she explained that adopting his sister would mean that they will have children, which she was against.
OP shared that he wanted to care for his sister, after his father passed away. The Redditor expressed that his sister needed care as she was traumatized after they lost their father, and OP didn’t wanted to leave his sister alone.
Then OP said to his wife that she has no other choice than welcoming his sister in their home. And he also explained that if she will keep acting mean about the matter, he would divorce. They stopped talking for a while after the argument.
And when OP updated his post, he explained that they got separated with his wife, as he said, “She said you really are choosing your sister over me.”
OP said to his wife that his sister was his priority, and she should understand, and he said that he doesn’t want to talk about it again.
“I have been living with my sister for 1 week now. Being a single father-ish brother is definitely challenging, but I am really enjoying it.” OP concluded.
The Redditors had praised OP with his action, as he was not selfish towards his sister, and chose to care for her, in her time of need. And blamed his wife that she was a selfish woman, who should be offering to help the sister.
