A woman shared her story on Reddit’s “AITA” subreddit. The woman had explained that a comment her husband made about her made her decide to never cook for her husband again.
Wife had started to her story as she shared that her husband and herself are coming from different cultures, where her husband doesn’t know how to cook. Her husband also doesn’t like the dishes of the woman’s culture. So, as a loving wife, she wanted to learn how to make the food her husband would like.
As her husband had liked the efforts his wife was putting to learn how to cook the things he like, the husband also had supported and tried to encourage his wife to continue on her efforts. But one day, as they were having a dinner with the in-laws, OP went to the bathroom, and as she came back, she heard her husband’s words which hurted her.
Her husband was eating lots of fast food, and his father asked why he was eating so much unhealth food, and if his wife was not making any food for him. Then OP shared, “My husband said that I cook for him, but the food I make can only be fed to pigs, not humans. I was hurt and so offended.”
After the OP heard her husband, she immediately confronted him and said to him that she will never cook for him again, and went back home.
After her husband came home, he stated that he didn’t wanted to hurt her, and he said that OP should be appreciate her since he was still eating the food she make even though it is not that good. “He said he was trying to protect my feelings, and I hurt him when I said I wouldn’t cook anymore,” OP said.
Then OP released an update about the incident, and shared that her husband is now living with his father, and his family is thinking that she is overreacting.
As OP said, the husband felt that she was threatening him, and thought that she would starve him, so he decided to stay with his father.
“I told him he could stay there all he could after he said he wouldn’t be back til I went back to cooking, but I don’t see that happening anytime soon. He can stay there, no pressure,” OP said.
Many other Redditor had shared their own opinions regarding the subject. People stated that it was incredibly rude to criticise the food his wife was making. And some other Redditors stated that the husband intentionally wanted to hurt the feelings of the OP.
A Redditor commented, “You are not his personal chef, and mocking you in front of his parents was a disgusting thing to do. A healthy marriage requires open communication and an equal partnership, neither of which is happening here if he’s not helping cook and then not telling you he has issues with your food.”
