Donna never liked her cousin Gwen. Even though Donna was way more beautiful than Gwen, her mother married with a poor man, and Gwen’s mother married with a rich man. They were living in different lives.
Gwen had many opportunities, as she went to a luxurious private school, and bought the expensive clothes and a car when she was 16. Donna had nothing.
She hated Gwen because of that, but she never said to her, as Gwen was generous and kind to her all the time.
Gwen would took Donna with her to the parties she went, and she would dress Donna with expensive clothes too. For Gwen, Donna was her best friend, until Donna stole the man Gwen was in love with.
She was in love with her father’s best friends son, Brian Finley. She was in love with him for her whole life. After Brian spent six years in Europe studying medicie, when he returned, Gwen rushed to Donna.
“Donna! Brian is back and he’s going to be at the dance at the country club tonight!”
“Who’s Brian?” Donna asked, as she was envying her cousin’s dress, and looking through her wardrobe.
“Brian and I…He was my first boyfriend when I was 16…Then he went overseas to study, and we’ve been writing to each other. I love him, and he loves me!” Gwen said.
“How come you’ve never told me about him before?” Donna asked.
“I thought you’d laugh at me, holding a torch for this guy for seven years…” Gwen looked emberassed.
“I think it’s sweet!” Donna said, “Tell me all about him!” And listened Gwen for hours.
Donna thought that Brian was the man she would want to be married to, as she was wanting a rich husband.
“Oh, you must introduce me tonight!” She said to Gwen.
As it was her usual move, she went there late, and stole the spotlight with her beauty. She was mesmerizing in her cousin’s clothes.
After she saw Gwen, she rushed to her side, and kissed her on the cheek. “Gwen! You look so pretty!” She said, and turned to Brian Finley.
“Aren’t you going to introduce me?” But before Gwen had a chance to speak, Donna took Brian’s hand and pulled him to the dancing floor.
Gwen watched her cousin steal her love, and she never saw them again at that night, she went back to her home, and cried until the sun was up again.
“I’m so sorry, Gwen, but Brian was so irresistible! I tried to tell him that I couldn’t come between you, and he said…He said it was a kid’s thing, a schoolgirl crush…” Donna called Gwen on the next day.
As Gwen was devastated, she wished them well. On that summer, Donna and Brian got engaged.
“Engaged?” Gwen was shocked when she learned it. “But Brian, you’ve barely known her three months!”
“I know,” Brian said. “But she just swept me off my feet, Gwenny, I’m in love and she’s having my baby…”
“BABY?” Gwen was terrified. “DONNA? Donna hates children!”
“You’re being very unfair to your cousin,” Brian continued, “She’s a wonderful girl and she’ll be a wonderful mother. I hope now that we’ll be family you’ll give up on that little fantasy you had…”
“I HAD?” Gwen was so confused and devastated. “I thought you cared about me too!”
“Baby, this is my golden ticket. The guy hasn’t even asked me to sign a prenup! He thinks I’m pregnant, so in a few weeks, I’ll fake a miscarriage…”
“And then it’s you and me on a tropical beach with a fat settlement!”
Brian was frozen with what he heard. As he wanted to confront with her immediately, he decided to wait for a lesson to teach her. Then he went to talk with Gwen. “You were right about everything,” he whispered to her. “She’s a liar. She made me believe what I felt for you was childish, but right now all I feel is relief that I’m not marrying her.”
“You’re not marrying her?” Gwen asked.
“No,” Brian said. “I’m marrying you because you know it’s always been you. I let her blind me, seduce me…I’m sorry Gwen.”
“But the rehearsal dinner, the wedding…” Gwen said. “What are you going to do?”
“I have this idea, and I hope you agree,” Brian whispered. “Listen…”
When the morning came, Donna wear her expensive hown, and walked around the cathedral. “I don’t like the hair,” she said to the hair stylist. “Do it again!”
“Donna, you are already half an hour late…” Her sister said to Donna.
“I don’t care,” Donna said. “I’m the bride, they will wait!”
An hour and a half later Donna arrived at the cathedral. “Open the door,” she shouted, “Can’t you see I’ve finally arrived?”
As the security opened the door, Donna heard, “You may kiss the bride!”
Donna was shocked when she saw Gwen and Brian at the altar. Everyone was cheering them. As Donan screamed and threw her bouquet, no one cared for her.
