A femare Redditor had shared her story on the Reddit’s “AITA” subreddit. The woman shared that her sister-in-law was constantly talking with OP’s husband, which is her brother. The sister-in-law was talking about the Christmas gifts they would buy to each other’s children, prior three months of Christmas.
The sister-in-law was stating that her son would like to receive the money they would pay for the gift, as he had no interest on the gifts he would receive.
As OP accepted the situation, her sister-in-law, her mother-in-law and her husband were, all giving, “not-so-subtle hints,” as they were going to gift cash, and were also making weird statements about her religion.
As OP felt forced to gift cash, she gave $200 each of her sister-in-law’s three children.
When the Christmas day arrived, after OP gave $200 each of the children, the sister-in-law took $600 as she was happy, and she didn’t even thanked to OP. But she was shocked when she witnessed the treatment her children received from the sister-in-law.
Sister-in-law had gifted $20 Smiggle gift cards to each of OP’s children. As OP was livid, she took her children and left the Christmas dinner. “I know your supposed to be grateful and all with whatever you get, but I worked for 3 months saving that money that I felt I had to give, and I thought was excessive, in return for a joke [sic]?” OP had stated.
As she felt devastated, and she witnessed the terrible treatment the sister-in-law had gave to her children, she was mad against her husband, for he had pushed her too much to give the cash to his sister’s children.
“AITA for storming out of Christmas lunch being ungrateful for SIL cheapening out on my kid’s Christmas gifts,” OP asked.
As many Redditors had read the OP’s story, they had stated that OP should stay away from the family, and how terrible person was the sister-in-law.
“NTA. They get $20 next year and you need to stand up to your partner,” a Redditor commented, and another Redditor said, “Regift the smiggle cards back next year. Bonus points if they are already part used.”
The one another Redditor commented, “I love the idea, but I don’t think you can just partially use those gift cards. Looking at their site, anything a kid would even want there is over $20! The SIL did not even put enough on the card to buy the kid a present!!!”
